Stouffville Ontario is located less than 10 minutes North of Markham and is quickly becoming one of the more popular areas to live in the GTA. New home construction has flourished in recent years attracting many first time homebuyers and young families. The town's population has grown by nearly 40% in the last few years and continues to grow at a rapid pace. The town of Stouffville is somewhat divided between the "old" and the "new".
Most of the older Stouffville homes are located within a short distance to Main Street or Downtown Stouffville. The newer developments, such as "Wheeler's Mill" and "Wheelers On Main" tend to be somewhat centred off Hoover Park between highway 48 and slightly west of 10th Line. Another popular development is the neighbourhood of Cardinal point located near highway 48 and Millard Street. This neighbourhood features many townhomes and detached homes on ravine and slightly deeper lots. Continue up Millard Street and you'll find a more established neighbourhood near the Stouffville Resevoir Park. Whatever your taste or budget, Stouffville likely has a nice home to suit your needs.
In 2006, urban Stouffville had a population of 8,000 to 10,000 people, or about one-third of the population of the larger Town of Whitchurch–Stouffville. The Town of Whitchurch–Stouffville estimates that the population grew more than 58% between 2006 and 2011; most of that growth was limited to the Community of Stouffville or the Community of Ballantrae. By 2021, the town’s total population forecast is projected to be approximately 55,800 persons, with an estimated 41,000 persons residing within the Community of Stouffville.
With connection to a massive new sewage system (also known as the Big Pipe) and a water pipe from Lake Ontario, urban Stouffville began to grow rapidly after 2005. In 2008, construction began to widen Stouffville Road / Main Street from two lanes to four lanes, from Ninth Line to the edge of urban Stouffville at Highway 48 (the community of Ringwood), and further to McCowan Road. Construction was completed in June 2010. Stouffville Road will eventually be widened up to Highway 404.
